| e-Security – before disaster strikes you! |
|
e-security
has remained the most important and often, most
neglected necessity in the Digital World today.
IT infrastructure has been repeatedly compromised
in both Government and Business. The challenge
lies in identifying possible areas of compromise.
The scope covers Intrusion Detection, Firewalls,
Virus protection and Public Key Infrastructure.
PKI addresses Authentication, Non-Repudiation,
Confidentiality and Integrity. Time is, hence,
running out before…
|
| The e-security Challenge |
|
The primary challenge is to translate
the basic social trust mechanisms to the digital
world and plan for unforeseen intrusions, either
forced or viral, protect the organization’s electronic
assets, besides have recovery plans in case of
disasters to be operational in full strength and
in the shortest possible time.
Intrusion detection and recovery are new challenges
that have taken shape with the advent of the Internet
by exposing us to such new threats. Implementation
of Firewall and subsequent recovery management
form a part of the solution.
Virus attacks and its consequent loss has now
been more than apparent for over a year. Virus
attacks have caused from data loss, system breakdown
to network overloads. Very often, organizations
do not have contingency and recovery plans after
a Virus attack. The collateral damage has been
even less measured and controlled.
In the case of PKI, the challenge is to translate
the basic social trust mechanisms to the digital
world. Divergent solutions, deviations from standards
and lack of interoperability among vendors have
delayed the acceptance of a very critical aspect
of e-security.
Disaster Recovery are the Alternate Plans that
enterprises need to have to recover completely
from any of the security attacks that may still
occur despite all the preventive measures applied.
However, specific recovery plans need to be in
place.
The current scenario worldwide has only brought
Security and the threat perception to the fore,
and the risks of ignoring the same.
