COMPUSOL PKI Test Bed for X.509 and RFC 2459 standards

Abstract

A Public Key Infrastructure is of paramount importance in view of national and personal information security in the information age and is a key component in the Internet related information infrastructure. With a myriad of vendors offering solutions and software, customers are bound to lose their way in determining the appropriate solution to their needs. This problem is further aggravated in the case of national security where a country or a government can get limited solutions based upon the solution they choose thus becoming vendor-specific and proprietary, instead of open and standards-based. A PKI Test Bed is instrumental in providing a neutral and independent assessment and evaluation of all PKI solutions from various vendors, especially for governmental needs. COMPUSOL has been in the business of developing Software Products, E-governance and Enterprise Solutions in India, Middle East and other parts of the globe. Among its solutions include, implementation of CA Servers from various vendors such as Microsoft, RSA, Baltimore and Sun. COMPUSOL Labs, the Research wing in COMPUSOL, has also been pursuing the development of prototypes of PKI solutions integrating various vendor solutions and has successfully developed and demonstrated indigenous PKI solutions starting from the CA server, especially to address the CA-CA interoperability, XML based XKMS standards, and Root CA related infrastructure.

COMPUSOL also has an extensive software testing practice, which is widely accepted in the market for its coverage and depth. Various customers, both in India and abroad, have used our testing services to enhance the value of their products and deliverable to their customers. It is with this rich experience and understanding of PKI and testing that COMPUSOL now offers to develop and setup a PKI test bed for various government organizations.

 Solution Framework

COMPUSOL offers to develop the solution employing the Web Solutions Framework employing technologies such as SOAP, XML, Web Services and LDAP based Directory Services. It is intended to be on Windows 2000 Advanced Server and LDAP compliant Active Directory Services as most vendors are now extending support to the said platform. It also offers a cost effective implementation on LDAP compared to expensive Unix based solutions. The Hardware is intended to be on Intel based Quad-CPU servers to ensure real-world compatible deployment environment. The Test bed is intended to be developed in Java 1.3 to enable deployment on any platform, Microsoft or Unix, thus extending the Return on Investment from CRL
