The
Need
The IT industry in India is growing by leaps and
bounds. Software export houses are growing at
a rapid pace with enhanced business and customer
demands. The Customer, being knowledgeable, sets
higher targets from sub-contract vendors, with
Quality being paramount.
One major drawback is the fact that software,
unlike engineering produce, is intangible and
ambiguous and has little or no product standards.
Added to this is the fact that Software engineers
work, more often, in styles independent of organizations,
which may not be standardized or documented. Quality
suffers and schedules slip, which leads to hefty
penalties slapped on to the sub-contracting organization.
The IT industry now demands the highest quality
that goes beyond the normal standards set in the
engineering industry.
The Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie-Mellon
University, Pittsburgh, Penn., USA, has designed
a process evaluation methodologies and standards,
called the Capability Maturity Model (CMM). The
objective was to provide guidance to the military
services in selecting capable software contractors.
The CMM evaluates the strengths and weaknesses
of the same. The highest level of competence,
Level V, Optimizing, has so far been achieved
by only seven establishments. While we have growing
breed of programmers and Software engineers, the
number of software quality professional needed
to match them has been lagging. Hence, a large
demand-supply gap exists. What the industry now
needs is quality professionals with ability and
drive to establish processes and take their organizations
towards Certification for SEI CMM.
Also the present trend in the Market for QA professionals
is that they are expected to know the basic concepts
of Software Testing and the automated tools available
.
In order to close this gap and to share our experience
in software engineering, testing, COMPUSOL now
conduct a training program aimed at training Quality
and ISO professionals on Software quality assurance
and CMM.
COMPUSOL was setup in 1995 and is a Microsoft
Certified Solution Provider, currently developing
products on Internet and Web-based solutions.
